The Thumbnail Way
Santa Maria de Eunate - Muruzábal (Navarra)
Historical-artistic review
The church of Santa María de Eunate, located at the end of Muruzábal, is one of the most unique and debated examples of the Romanesque architecture of the Way of Santiago. Built in the 12th century, its octagonal plant and its surrounding porticated gallery distinguish it from the most common basilical-plant churches, suggesting influences of centralized plants that evoke rites and symbolisms associated with pilgrimage and hospitality. Its isolation in the Navarro landscape and its unique morphology have fed interpretations that connect it with pilgrim orders and special liturgical functions.
The model
The model seeks to capture the exceptional geometry of Santa María de Eunate, emphasizing the octagonal plant and the porticated gallery surrounding it. In scale reproduction, we have tried to emphasize the clarity of the volumes and the spatial relationship between the main body and the surrounding portico, transmitting that sense of mystery and recollection that characterizes the real building when it is discovered in the middle of the countryside.
