Seu Vella - Lleida

Historical-artistic review

Since the late 12th century, Lleida played a very important role in the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. The city was a key point of meeting and welcoming pilgrims.
La Seu Vella de Lleida is one of the most magnificent cathedrals in Catalonia and a key monument in the history of Mediterranean architecture. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries on an ancient mosque, it fuses Gothic elements with details of Lombard and Mudejar influence, highlighting its basilical plant, its vigorous elevation and the integration of defensive spaces. From very soon on he had a chapel dedicated to Santiago el Mayor and his image as a pilgrim was part of the magnificent sculptural ensemble of the Porta dels Apòstols.

The model

This model seeks to convey the monumental and volumetric rhythm of the Seu Vella, with special emphasis on reading its plant, the proportions of its ships and the presence of its characteristic elements: the cathedral, the cloister, its magnificent covers and the emblematic bell tower. The scale representation aims to capture the sense of solidity and the relationship with the environment that distinguishes the real building, as well as its historical importance in the context of the Catalan Way of Santiago.
