Church of Sant Climent de Taüll - Taüll (Lleida)
Historical-artistic review
The Church of Sant Cement de Taüll is one of the most outstanding works of the Romanesque Lombardo in Spain and a milestone of European medieval art. Built in the early 12th century in the Valley of Boí (Lleida), it is part of the set of Romanesque churches registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its basilical plant, its dome tower and the beautiful mural paintings (originally polychrome) make Sant Cement a reference to the artistic and spiritual language of the Middle Ages in the Pyrenees.
The model
This model pays particular attention to the relationship between the main volumes (central ship, apses and tower) and the harmonic proportion of their architectural elements. It has been sought to convey the sense of monumental and serenity that characterizes the real building, as well as the clarity of its Romanesque forms, allowing to appreciate on a small scale the constructive logic that distinguishes Sant Climate from other medieval temples.
Although Sant Climent de Taüll is not on the traditional itineraries of the Camino de Santiago, its inclusion in the collection enriches the context of the European and Mediterranean Romanesque that has also influenced Jacobea routes.
